THE FOREST AROUND MY ISLAND

Over the course of one month, more than 90 local participants have engaged in creative workshops using seaweed harvested from the shores of Suduroy.

This hands-on exploration introduced seaweed as both a mater i a I for making-from seaweed "paper" to I as er-cut creations-and a living presence with its own character and rhythm.

Participants were invited to imagine life as seaweed: how it moves, survives, and adapts to the ever-changing ocean. This process of artistic and sensory engagement-seeing, smelling, touching, and even tasting-helped bring this often-overlooked marine algae into sharper focus, bridging art, ecology, and imagination.

A central focus of the project is to explore the coastline with local children and youth, using seaweed as a gateway to connect more deeply with their natural environment. Through collective artistic research, the project fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and play.
